About the Town

Arcatao is located in El Salvador near the border of Honduras in a small valley between the mountains. Arcatao is a village with a population of just over 3,000 residents that are trying to recover and rebuild their town and lives after the civil war that took place from 1980-1992.

About the Project

Futurwatch EDEP is working together with the town of Arcatao on a multi-year project to build an Eco-Centre. Once a year Futurewatch sent multiple a brigade of volunteers with a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge to help design, create and then build the centre.

The Eco-centre of Arcatao was implemented on communal land, and it consists of a physical facility that will host a historical Museum and the Environment Centre. The centre consists of an ecological design with modules for forest preservation, organic agriculture and outdoor recreation.
